Welchen Möglichkeiten will ich in Zukunft nützen?

„Schools are workshops of humanity, by causing to make humans out of human beings.” Johannes Amos Comenius (1592-1670) (tschechischer Theologe und Pädagoge)
TARGETS OF THE PROJECT Our students grow up in a united Europe that offers them the unlimited possibilities of an open labor market but also demands a variety of skills. In order to help our students to develop these 21st century skills and become more open-minded we decided to follow the key competences for lifelong learning set up by the EU and want to concentrate on three aspects in our project: - social and cultural awareness (Focus: Who am I? How do others see me and how do I see others? How do I present myself?) - communication (Focus: Which ways of communication do we use? Which ways will be important in my future? What are the possibilities/dangers/advantages/rules of e-communication and face-to-face communication?) - Problem-solving and flexibility (Focus: Which skills do I have to handle tasks? Which skills do I need for my future and how can I develop them? How can I work with others?) We want to work with our students on these three topics. Each part includes activities in the national groups, such as discussions, exercises, creation of posters, questionnaires etc. and will result in a workshop meeting with all partners, where the ideas from the national groups will be brought together and ways to develop new skills will be tried and discussed. The first part sets the goal to make the students understand themselves better. They discuss their lifestyles and find out about the many similarities in their lifestyles but also differences that are based on cultural roots. The second part makes the students aware of their communication habits and also teaches them how to safely and effectively communicate in different ways. The third part focuses on problem-solving by working on complex tasks. The students will have to work together and develop new ideas in order to solve them. In the discussion between the participating schools, it became clear that our students are facing some of the same problems in terms of how their learning and as a consequence their future is being affected by the lack of certain skills. They are all facing a rapidly changing world and are growing up not only to become responsible citizens of their own country but also European citizens. We want to enhance the students’ awareness of the importance of a preparation for life after school that does not only include “knowledge” but more and more skills that enable them to get on with the modern world of work. They need to understand that lifelong learning is an ongoing process that doesn’t stop when they leave school. Modern world of work means constant change and the ability to adapt and adjust is crucial in order to succeed. Our students will need to be able to react to new situations quickly, communicate and work with people from different social and cultural backgrounds and use their creativity to solve problems by themselves or with others. Therefore our aim is to prepare our students for these challenges. We will do this by focusing on different competences that we consider especially important for being a European citizen of the future: 1) Social and cultural awareness You need to have an understanding of who you are in order to be able to understand others. Therefore, our first priority in this field is to help our students see themselves by making them take a closer look at their own lifestyle to then learn about the lifestyle of teenagers all over Europe. 2) Communication Communication skills, on all levels and in all environments, will be crucial in the future. Communication will take place face-to –face as well as using information technology over the internet, mobile phones etc. 3) Problem-solving and flexibility The ability to adjust to changes is becoming more and more important in the world of work. Our students need to be prepared for a future of constant change and they need to have the skills to deal with this. They must be able to cope with new situations and upcoming tasks on short notice by themselves as well as with others.
